Introduction

The Khirthar National Park Baseline study is a multidisciplinary research project led by Melbourne Enterprises International and research staff from the University of Melbourne. Due to the diverse nature of the research, a key component of the study is geographic information systems and remote sensing technology. This component of the baseline study is coordinated through the Centre for GIS and Modelling in the Department of Geomatics. These pages describe the spatial modelling component of the research including key personnel, research objectives, recent developments and key spatial datasets available to researchers.

Geographic Information Systems & Remote Sensing

A key component of the Khirthar National Park Baseline study is the establishment of a Geographical Information System. Because of the abundance of spatial data expected to arise from field surveys, efficient spatial data management is critical for the long term success of the project. The GIS will provide inventorying, mapping and modelling capability for present and future researchers and park managers working in the region. The database developed for the study will have ongoing importance as a park management tool. These pages will be progressively updated as data becomes available.
