A number of data sets have been acquired and developed in the preliminary stages of this project.

Meteorological Data:
Daily temperature and precipitation data from 223 stations (1881-1989) was acquired via the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC).

This data has been complied into a number of relational databases using Microsoft Access. These databases contain a range of forms and queries designed to identify meteorological patterns and events.

The station data has been turned into a shape file which is linked to the database. This allows for mapping of the meteorological data using Arc View GIS and will allow for comparisons between climate data and other data sets. ANUSPLIN 4.1 is being used to generate climate surfaces for the data.

The meteorological data from CDIAC was Contributed by V. N. Razuvaev, E. B. Apasova, R. A. Martuganov, All-Russian Research Institute of Hydrometeorological Information-World Data Centre,  Obninsk, Russia, and prepared by Prepared by  D. P. Kaiser, Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center, Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Climate Surfaces:
We are currently in the process of creating climate surfaces using our Meteorological database and GTOPO 30 elevation data using ANUSPLIN 4.1.

GTOPO 30 Data:

An Arc View grid file has been created for the Russian region from GTOPO 30 data.  This involved creating an ASCII grid in Erdas Imagine and then importing it into Arc View. In Arc View a simple Avenue script was created to shift the portion of the grid with negative longitudes into place.
