The following MERS PhD
projects are currently being conducted in the Department. |
Student: Michael McGoldrick Supervisor: Dr. Joe Leach Abstract: The ability to differentiate between depth and interference from the water column has proven to be a major stumbling point in studying the marine environment via remote sensing. The clarity of the water column can change drastically within local coastal waters as well as on larger scales: eg. from cool temperate waters to tropical waters. It is proposed to compare high-resolution image data to imagery from other sensor types and high definition digital bathymetry in order to evaluate and establish procedures to unmix the signal return from the seabed from that of the water column. It is also proposed that these studies should encompass cool temperate, warm temperate and tropical waters in order to fully investigate and describe the variations between water bodies.
