Angle - Angle Intersection

How does it work?

In the simplest case the angle-angle intersection solves a two dimensional triangle. The three known quantities in the triangle are two angles and a distance. The distance is measured between the two stations where the angle measurement takes place. The angles are measured using suitable equipment, such as theodolites or total stations.

Click on each of the three control points shown to decide which control point will achieve optimum precision for measuring the relationship between the Cage and the Bird Cage using Angle-Angle intersection.

Intersections apply to position coordinates only (for example, X and Y or easting and northing). The distance between the two stations is the horizontal distance, and horizontal angles are measured. If the third coordinate of the intersected point is needed then additional measurements are necessary to determine the height of the point.
