Geodetic Class GPS Receivers

Geodetic class GPS units, such as the Ashtech XII and the Leica System 300, are designed to store all the data that is received by the unit from all the available satellites.  Positions can be computed at a later stage to achieve much higher precisions and accuracies than those achievable with handheld units. Geodetic receivers also allow communication between a base station and a roving receiver, also known as real-time differential positioning, which allows rapid surveys for control or mapping. Multi channel geodetic quality receivers cost from $25,000 to $50,000.
