The Clinometer is a very simple instrument for measuring vertical angles at minimal precision and accuracy. Used in conjunction with a Compass, Clinometers are useful for GPS 'mission planning' - estimating the height of obstructions (relative to the GPS station) to satellite visibility such as a building or other feature.
